I know how much our community values green spaces, and I couldn't be prouder to share some great news on a major milestone.
You can now officially walk, bike, and roll through the brand-new public trails on the old Bowmanville Zoo lands!
For years, this property has held a special place in our community’s memories. Seeing it take its very first step toward becoming a stunning 13.7-hectare municipal park—thanks to the Bowmanville Park Master Plan—feels pretty surreal and wonderful.
It’s a huge win for Clarington’s future - Our very own Central Park, which will be enjoyed for generations to come.
Here is what is waiting for you out there:
A smooth main trail: We’ve put in a four-metre-wide accessible asphalt path along the west side of the Soper Creek system so it is easy for everyone to use, whether you're walking, biking, or pushing a stroller.
Exploring the landscape: If you want a closer look at nature, there are secondary crushed limestone trails winding deeper into the area.
Places to pause: We added benches and decorative armour stone, so grab a coffee, find a spot, and just take a breather.
Bringing nature back: Hundreds of new trees and shrubs have been planted to help heal and re-naturalize the land.
This project proves that when we INVEST in OUR COMMUNITY, we build a better quality of life for everyone!

You can now explore 700 metres of new public trails on the former Bowmanville Zoo lands! 🌿
Cycle, walk or roll along the new accessible asphalt trail, or take the scenic route along crushed limestone trails that branch off and wind through the natural landscape. Along the way, you'll find hundreds of newly planted trees and shrubs, as well as benches and decorative stone to rest and enjoy the surroundings.
The new trail network marks the first completed phase of the Bowmanville Park Master Plan, made possible in part by $80,000 in community benefit funding from Hydro One.
📍 You can experience the new trails by accessing them through Mearns Park or from the south entrance near King Street East and Mearns Avenue in Bowmanville.
